Shannon arens

Shannon is the founder of Honing Wellness.  With almost 13 years in the fitness and wellness industry, she has noticed that there is a segment of the population not receiving the support they need: postnatal women.  Shannon began her career in the mental health field.  She was a child and family therapist for low-income families struggling to manage the day-to-day responsibilities of being a parent.  She saw directly the impact parents can have on their children when they are not taking care of themselves.

When Shannon moved to San Francisco in 2010, she found a deep love for the fitness industry.  She opened a private personal training studio and worked with a wide range of clients, including prenatal and postnatal women.  In 2014, Shannon sold her business and moved into a role in corporate wellness.  Through all of these experiences, she has witnessed a gap: there are so many wonderful services offered to expecting moms to keep them healthy: prenatal yoga, prenatal pilates, doula services, etc.  However, it seems that these services are forgetting about the next stage of life: being a new mom.

Shannon’s belief is that a new mother must take care of herself in order to be fully present for her newborn and family. Shannon has created a program that will allow new moms to develop a holistic wellness plan to be and feel like her best self.  Through coaching, clients will build strategies to achieve short-term goals related to movement, healthy eating, improved relationships, and investment in self.
